We did a little more research on beaches this time so that we wouldn’t run into the same problem as the day before. Plus, the wind had died down significantly so we hoped that meant that more beaches would have hospitable conditions. We decided to try Golden Beach and that actually had good signage so we found a place to park and it again was accessed through a private beach bar/club type of thing which was closed but lucky for us, they did not fence it off AND they even left 3 sets of umbrellas and lounge chairs out on the beach basically for free as no one was around to pay. Normally, the cost for two lounge chairs and an umbrella is between 20€ and 40€ so this was a good deal for us. We enjoyed the sun and peace and quite for a while and even tried to venture into the calm, shallow water of the sea but man, was it cold and not a single one of us were brave enough to goin past our knees.
We stayed for a bit, reading, relaxing and eating the sandwiches Debbie had picked up from the coffee shop that became her daily routine each morning for coffee and then decided to try what Jodi had read was a marble beach. As we got in the car and googled directions, we discovered it was not a marble beach but a granite one and we were interested all the same. This beach was stunning with a small cove surrounded by granite outcroppings that went all the way into the water and sloping all the way up the hill behind the beach. There were a few other people that found little nooks in the sand among the rocks and on the rocks themselves and we found our spot, with me finding a rock that had the perfect slope for a reading chair.
Protected by the rocks from any breeze, the sun felt quite warm and even though the water was still super chilly here, Debbie took the opportunity to go all the way in and swam around for a bit.
The way the sun shown on clear water down to the sand was mesmerizing.
The water here stayed relatively shallow for quite a ways out. Jodi and I only managed to wade in and dip to our necks for a moment but we both found it too cold to put our head under.
We dried off in the sun again and then decided to visit the close by town of Naoussa before heading to home base. This town was about the same size as Parikia, maybe bigger and followed the typical pattern of interior pedestrian streets. We were actually getting hungry again so we parked the car and wandered around and found a place were we snacked on dolma and fried meatballs, of course with tzatziki.
