On Saturday, I decided to do the recommended walk down along the Brayford river to a riverside inn called The Pyewipe Inn.  It was recommended both for the walk and the pub.  It was raining but not pouring and I decided to do the walk anyway.  I donned my waterproof sneakers and raincoat, grabbed my umbrella and walked out the door.  I forgot to time the walk but it was just under 2 miles one way.  I arrived before their kitchen opened however but they let me order a pint and sit in the pub while I waited to order lunch.  The walk here was lovely, following the river which was lined with old houseboats for a good portion of it.

I think the rain kept the majority of people off the path, I am sure on nice days during the weekends, the path is packed with bike riders, walkers, runners, etc.  But I had the path mostly to myself and even with the light rain, the walk was a perfect peaceful way to spend an hour or so.

On our final full day in Lincoln, after dropping my aunt off at the event venue for the final day of competition, I returned to the apartment, had a small bite to eat, then showered and dressed and decided to walk the “Roman trail”. It is just a route around the city where you can see some of the remnants and locations of the Roman structures that were starting to be built most likely just shortly after Nero was the Roman Emperor.

The streets and walks were busy with it being a Sunday afternoon with nice weather, in the mid sixties with some clouds in the sky but sun peaking out at well.  And most importantly, no rain.  After a leisurely stroll taking in the sites, the sounds of cathedral bells that never ended, the local antique flea market in the square near the entrance to the castle walls,  I made my way back to the apartment and took the car to go back to the arena to watch the medals and closing ceremony for the dog competition.  Maverick did very well throughout the week, earning two silver medals and a gold in the various events.

Then the entire US team had dinner together at the restaurant on site and Sally and I headed back to the apartment to pack up so we could check out at 10am the next morning.  I had asked our host if we could do a late check out but she said Monday’s were too busy for the cleaners and we would have to be gone by 10am.  We were hoping to get a later start to the day as it was only a 4 hour drive back to the ferry terminal in Holyhead, Wales and our ferry didn’t leave until 2:15am again.
