The day I was leaving Girona just before midday, I walked to the bus station, about 15 minutes and waited around for the bus to Cadaques. The bus was not as crowded as the train was that I had to take to get to Girona and I had the row to myself for the 2 hour ride to the coast. We passed over some flat terrain and and we were passing by field after field of what looked sort of like vineyards but the plant growing along the wired guides running down the length of the rows were definitely not grapes. It didn’t take me long to determine that they were apple orchards of a variety of different colored apples with the small trained bushes absolutely loaded with apples. After a few more towns, the terrain got more rugged and hilly and the road got narrow and curvy. The last leg of the journey takes you out on a peninsula and Cadaques is in the middle at the very end of peninsula. As it got more hilly, I noticed that someone has terraced the shit out of the land around here. Almost every single hill was terraced within an inch of it’s life with very low what appeared to be old stone walls. It didn’t seem like they were serving much of a purpose at this point but I suppose they were meant to maximize areas for growing crops, maybe olives or apples. But these areas are not planted at the moment so it just looks like someone got a little carried away with the rock walls.
At the bus station in Cadaques, my navigation told me I was just a 6 minute walk to my hotel, Hotel Ublado. I found it easily and waited behind another couple to check in. It was a small, simple, clean hotel very near the center of the village. I was shown to my room which was in the building adjacent to the main building of the hotel up some outside stone stairs. My room as small but neat, clean and with a surprise balcony.
The only thing I did that evening was go out to get dinner and then back to the room. As I was walking back to my hotel from dinner, I heard some good vibey jazzy type music coming from a door located just below the street I was walking on. Took a peak over the railing and saw the sign for the bar Brown Sugar. I would have to remember that for another night. Looked like an interesting chill place.
