I visited the dog competition a few times to see Maverick do some of his runs. He didn’t place in the top but he was fun to watch and did not do too bad at all.
On another evening, I drove the 30 minutes to Deventer for a bit more of a social scene and was quite delighted with the town. It has a charming medieval center with the narrow streets and tall buildings you would expect and lots of interesting small bards and restaurants. Some of the locals at a small pub I visited recommended I visit a nature reserve park and art museum so I planned on it for the following day. I stayed quite late in Deventer drinking coffee because the locals also warned me that the police were very strict about driving with alcohol in your system and by their measurements, they said I should have no more than 2 drinks over the course of the entire evening. I kept it to 2 but still was a bit paranoid so I matched my drink intake with coffee intake because the last thing I needed was a DUI scare in a foreign country.
