The day of the hike It was a bit of a cloudy day but not super cold and I headed out from the center of town.  There is at some points a boardwalk you can take and there are also an endless amount of dirt paths that crawl over the cliffs so I found a route that took me to one of the paths and then just winged it and wandered for hours making my way to the lighthouse.  When I finally got to the lighthouse, the skies opened up for a quick rain shower and I actually considered hitch hiking back to town but after I started walking and the rain let up, I didn’t mind the walk along the road back.

And when I got to town I stopped at a place for a snack.  Blind Melon’s “No Rain” was playing which I was digging but then another busker showed up right outside and sort of drowned it out.  I would have rather heard Blind Melon.  There were quite a few buskers in Lagos and it seemed that most of them were not Portuguese.  I thought I detected American, English and Australian accents.  For some reason, maybe the weather, the surfing, the affordable lifestyle, Lagos seemed to be a mecca for expats from all over.

I was getting a little panicky that I had such a short time left in my travels and I was craving taking in as many of the sights and locations as I could so I took a bus the next day to the town on the farthest south west coast, Sagres, about an hour away.  It was a pretty small town with not much to see so I was glad I did not plan to stay a night or two there but the draw is the surfing and the cliffs which again, you can hike along including another lighthouse.  The wind was pretty intense in some spots and I spent the afternoon just walking along the cliffs.  It was a nice sunny day and in one location, I found a spot on the cliffs protected from the wind so the sun felt warm and toasty and I sat on that rock and read my book for a while.

I took the bus back to Lagos for my last night there and actually ate at the PIE Lagos again but they no longer had the pulled pork sandwich so I got the popcorn clams and a salad.  I was taking the bus to Alvor the next day.
