On my last full day in Manchester, I decided to visit some sites related to one of the reasons I wanted to visit Manchester in the first place.  Manchester and the surrounding boroughs were the birthplace and stomping grounds of some of my favorite bands and musicians and there were iconic places around the city that I wanted to visit.

On the cover of the album “The Queen is Dead” the Smiths are pictured in front of the Salford Lads Club.  It is an iconic photo and now the club, the oldest still operating boys club in the Manchester area, is usually included in a pilgrimage for Smiths fans.  So many fans have come to see the front of the building and recreate the photo that the club now has a Smiths room covered with memorabilia and photos of the band and other musicians that have come to the location to pay tribute.  I even got myself a shirt with the Salford Lads Club logo as all proceeds go towards the operation of the club which helps low income and at risk kids in the neighborhood stay out of trouble and do some good in the world.
