I had not made a plan for the day and even though it was not beach weather, I wanted to see the beach on one of the many islands and isthmuses that dotted the coast of Faro.  I decided I wanted to see Praia de Faro, one of the most popular beaches in the area.  I packed layers, a sandwich, a towel and my book.  I took an Uber to the beach which was across a long land bridge past the airport.  Because it was not really beach weather, it was just me and a few beach walkers and even though it was cool, the sun was out and I walked the water’s edge for a while before finding a spot where I dug out a sand chair, laid my blanket down and spent the next hour or so watching and listening to the waves, feeling the sun on my face and reading my book.  It was a perfect way to spend one of my final days.

And I even got to ride the small boat ferry from the other end of the beach back to central Faro, which cost 2.50€ and took less than 20 minutes.

I wanted to make it back in time to see the sunset.  I didn’t have much time before I wanted to arrive at Hotel Faro to insure a good table right at the edge to watch the sunset. I figured this meant I should be there at least 45 minutes before the actual sunset and that turned out to be just right.  I got a great seat right at the glass wall facing out over the harbor where the sun would set over the Atlantic.  I ordered a beer and read my book waiting for another day to make it’s way into night in Faro.  Turns out, the sunset was not all that spectacular but still quite nice and a beer and Old Fashioned later, the sun was down and I left the rooftop to go to a restaurant just steps from my apartment called Apertivo.

I enjoyed a few of their small plates and then walked around for a bit more, not wanting to lay my head down on one of my last days here.
